The French Hill Winery Tasting Room is a delight to both wine enthusiasts and non-drinkers alike. Owner Rod Ruthel is a professional artist/wine label designer, and the tasting room art, jewelry and gift items reflect his artistic influence. Tasting Room Hours: Tuesday - Sunday, 11:00 am - 5:00 pm
At French Hill, our philosophy is simple: to produce truly enjoyable wines that set new standards of excellence for Sierra Foothill wineries. We take pride in making ultra-premium wines for you to share with friends and family on any occasion. Located in the historic gold rush town of Mokelumne Hill on Highway 49, French Hill Winery owes its name to the French trappers and prospectors who roamed the red clay and gravelly slopes of Calaveras County in the 1840s. Specializing in Cal-Italia varietals, Winemaker Rod Ruthel sources grapes from the Sierra Foothills to make wines of distinction: Barbera, Sangiovese, Zinfandel, Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Port. Wines consistently win top wine awards in major competitions. Production is very limited and only premium quality wines are offered for sale. French Hill is a "choice stop" for the true wine enthusiast.
